FROM LONDON AND THE M25
From London to Charing
Take the M20, exit at junction 8 (where the Maidstone services are) and take the A20 towards Harrietsham, Lenham and Charing. As soon as you turn off the main motorway roundabout there are three small roundabouts. At the first you take the first exit, the others you go straight over, staying on the A20. It is about seven miles to Charing.
From M25 east and north to Charing
After Dartford crossing take exit 3 on to the M20 towards Maidstone, exit at junction 8 (where the Maidstone services are) and take the A20 towards Harrietsham, Lenham and Charing. As soon as you turn off the main motorway roundabout there are three small roundabouts. At the first you take the first exit, the others you go straight over, staying on the A20. It is about seven miles to Charing.
From the M25 west to Charing
Just after Clacket’s Lane services at junction 5, take the M26 towards Maidstone. If you don’t turn off the M26 it eventually joins the M20. Carry on down the M20 and exit at junction 8 (where the Maidstone services are) and take the A20 towards Harrietsham, Lenham and Charing. At Charing
As you approach Charing, there is a large roundabout. Take the last exit which is the A20 towards Ashford. Take the second turning right which is about 300 yards from the roundabout, just before the pedestrian crossing with traffic lights. This is Station Road. First right is a car park, second right is the station and Hitherfield. If you have gone over the railway bridge you have missed the turning.

From Folkestone and Dover to Charing
Take the M20 to Ashford and exit at junction 9 (Ashford North). Follow signs to A20 and head towards, Charing and Lenham. At Charing there is a pedestrian crossing with traffic lights, turn left immediately into Station Road. First right in Station Road is a car park, second right is Hitherfield. If you have gone over the railway bridge you have missed the turning.
From Canterbury, Whitstable and Faversham to Charing
Take the A252 from Challock to Charing where there is a large roundabout. Take the A20 towards Ashford. Take the second turning right (about 300 yards from the roundabout). This is Station Road. First right is a car park, second right is Hitherfield. If you have gone over the railway bridge you have missed the turning.
From Tenterden and the west to Charing
Take the A28 and turn onto the A262 to Biddenden, then take the A 274 towards Headcorn and turn right after about a mile onto the ‘B’ road to Smarden, Pluckley and on towards Charing. As you enter Charing there is a railway bridge and Charing Station. As you go over the bridge the first turning left is Hitherfield.
From Tonbridge and the northwest to Charing
Turn off the A21 onto the A262 and travel via Goudhurst and Sissinghurst to Biddenden, then take the A274 towards Headcorn and turn right after about a mile onto the ‘B’ road to Smarden, Pluckley and on towards Charing. As you enter Charing there is a railway bridge and Charing Station. As you go over the bridge the first turning left is Hitherfield.
